Originally named the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum after Emperor Frederick III, it was renamed in 1956 after its first curator, Wilhelm von Bode, and fully renovated in 2006. Today, the Bode Museum and its dome act as an unofficial entrance to the buildings of Museum Island and stuns visitors with its grand neobaroque architectural style.
Individual and group guided tours are available to book online, and audio guides are available in German and English. You can purchase the Berlin Pass or Berlin WelcomeCard for free entry to the Bode Museum and 50 other attractions in the city.

The Bode Museum is open from 10am to 6pm Tuesday through Sunday with extended hours to 8pm on Thursday. The Gobelins tapestry room is open only on weekends and public holidays. Year-round, the most contemplative time to explore is early morning.
Highlights of the Bode Museum
Following the principles set by Wilhelm von Bode, who was fond of mixing art collections, the Bode Museum features an eclectic array of pieces. You’ll see an antique Roman sarcophagi along with 150 paintings from Berlin’s Picture Gallery as well as half a million coins and medals in the Coin Cabinet.
