South Lakes Safari Zoo Tours

For an immersive day out certain to delight the whole family, head to South Lakes Safari Zoo. Tour the park on foot to catch a glimpse of rhinos, jaguars, and other animals; hand-feed giraffes, penguins, or tigers; or learn more at one of the many educational talks.
The Basics
The sprawling South Lakes Safari Zoo has plenty to keep you occupied, with more than a dozen daily experiences ranging from interactive talks to animal feeding. Daring visitors can even opt to hand-feed a big cat. To save time and money, book your ticket online in advance. Feedings require add-on tickets, which you can buy at the zoo.
Things to Know Before You Go
How to Get There
South Lakes Safari Zoo is located just outside the Lake District, in Lindal-in-Furness, Cumbria. The X6 and 6 buses pass by the zoo approximately four times an hour; however, getting there by car is usually more convenient. If you’re coming from the M6 highway, follow the brown zoo signs, then turn at the Marton sign. On-site parking is free.
When to Get There
Open daily from 10am to 5pm between April and October, and from 10:30am to 4:30pm between November and March, South Lakes Safari Zoo is a year-round attraction that closes only on Christmas Day. Admission typically costs slightly more between April and September, which is when you’ll see the biggest crowds (and the most sun). Go midweek and outside of school holidays for a more relaxed experience.
Explore Cumbria
The English county of Cumbria, dominated by the Lake District National Park, is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, and families. After a day at the South Lakes Safari Zoo, soak up the scenery of Lake Windermere, sample a slice of Kendal Mint Cake in the town of the same name, or take a hassle-free day trip to Hadrian’s Wall.
