This activity will end right where it started.
Board your luxury coach, and travel from Rome to Tuscany with its scenic, rolling hills. Your first stop is Montepulciano, a town renowned for its fine wine and views. The Renaissance hilltown is best-known for its production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a full-bodied red wine. Learn about it on a walking tour, and discover highlights such as the Florence-style clock tower, the cathedral with its yet-to-be-finished façade, medieval wine cellars, and the old town walls.

After a break for photos, travel further into Tuscany to explore the area around Montalcino. Step inside Sant’ Antimo Abbey, and then soak up the vistas that stretch beyond the vineyards.

Hear how the local vineyards produce the acclaimed Brunello di Montepulciano wine, and then sample a glass for yourself over a 3-course lunch at a local farm. In traditional Tuscan style, the menu features fresh farm-grown produce as well as a selection of local wine.

From the farm, travel on to Pienza, one of the region’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here, enjoy free time to explore. The layout of the town was created by Pope Pius II, who wanted to change the look of his birth town. Admire the historic center, which stays true to the pope’s vision, and gaze at the fine architecture that abounds. If you are a fan of food, check the shops for pecorino cheese, arguably Pienza’s most prized product.

Your day trip finishes with your coach journey back from Tuscany to Rome.

Tempio di San Biagio
Immerse yourself in the architecture of St. Biagio's Church. This temple is the result of an exceptional synthesis between the artistic language of the Renaissance and the beauty of the Tuscan landscape, due to its peculiar location in the midst of a breath-taking landscape overlooking the Tuscan hills. The church, an example of a Renaissance Greek cross central plan, was used for the original design by Bramante and Michelangelo for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Itinerary: - Meeting point 7, leave 730am - Montepulciano: beautiful small town with local tour guide (no wine) - Montalcino: winery for wine tasting (5 wines) and 3-course lunch - Pienza: beautiful town, free to independently explore - Back to Rome approx 730pm As with most group tours, it is inconvenient because you have to wait on those who are running late or walk slower. The instructions said to meet at 645, but we didn't leave til about an hr later since a few people were running late. The tour guide (Emiliano) had such great energy, was so accommodating to everyone, and even gave time on the way back to answer any personal questions or give recommendations. There were also lots of bathroom breaks, which was good since it was such a huge group (over 50 ppl). The scenery was gorgeous & the wine was delicious, but keep in mind the wine tasting will only be included at the Montalcino stop. Worthwhile to see some of the highlights of Tuscany.

Good way to see Tuscany

Good way to see Tuscany if you are short on time and/or don’t have transportation. The tour was a lovely way to see areas of Tuscany in a short amount of time. Please note, this is not a shopping tour, so you will have very limited amount of time for shopping. But if you want to primarily take in the scenery and have a lovely lunch this is the tour for you. There were about 12 people on this tour and we loaded a smaller bus and started around 7:30 am. You do make a bathroom stop on the way to Tuscany and back. It is a small tourist shop, which is a nice walk through to look and see. You get a tour of a medieval town in the morning, lunch at a winery, and some free time in another small adorable little town before heading back to Rome. The lunch at the winery is not a tour, just a wine tasting and lunch. Lunch was very good and traditional. Wine was excellent. Andrea our tour guide was very knowledgeable and even made a special 2nd stop of the gladiator house because the first go around we stopped but it was raining. It was very nice of him to give us 3-5 mins a second time to jump off and get a quick picture. I went on this tour by myself since my husband had to work and it was very safe. There were a few other women on the tour by themselves, but mainly couples.

This was a fantastic tour. Great destinations, superb views, and delicious food and wine. Our guide, Emiliano, was awesome. He shared so much useful information and was very funny. I wish we had time to wander around Montepulciano on our own. We had a little time in Pienza. All of the views were just breathtaking. Highly recommend if you have a day to spend.
